Position Summary

We're looking for a Development Associate who will have an exceptional opportunity to enable Activate's mission by providing operational and strategic support to revenue generation across all funder types, with a focus on private philanthropy. The Development Associate will be responsible for producing proposals and reports, conducting new customer discovery and pipeline management, and providing operational support to award management processes and tools. The Development Associate will report to the Development Manager.

Primary Responsibilities

Produce proposals and reports:

  • Prepare proposals, concept notes, letters of intent, etc. for philanthropic funding opportunities
  • Conduct research, gather internal and external data, and conduct data analysis in support of grant objectives.
  • Facilitate program design workshops.
  • Write drafts and organize internal review of proposal packages.
  • Review grant proposals for completeness and consistency with criteria.
  • Assemble supporting materials and documents including budget narratives, outcome measurements, success stories, etc.
  • Draft compelling progress reports and targeted program updates for philanthropic funders that fully capture programmatic success.
  • Assist with ongoing analysis of program operations, outputs, and outcomes.
  • Ensure the team meets proposal and reporting deadlines for philanthropic funding opportunities and awards.
  • Determine priorities and target dates for gathering information, drafting, editing, revising, and submitting proposals/reports.
  • Collaborate with relevant staff to ensure compliance with donor requirements, collect and synthesize data, and solicit timely inputs for proposals and reports.
  • Prepare additional collateral materials, such as meeting decks and donor lookbooks.

Drive new customer discovery and pipeline management:

  • Research and qualify prospective philanthropic targets who are supporting organizations and causes similar to Activate.
  • Support development and execution of outreach strategies to new prospective philanthropic targets.
  • Develop assets for events, campaigns, and donor communications.
  • Research trends in philanthropic giving and make recommendations for new revenue-generating opportunities.
  • Attend and staff local fundraising events.

Maintain business development processes and tools:

  • Input and manage data and action items across Hubspot, Asana, and other data tools.
  • Assist with donor database management and reporting, including analyzing data, developing data pipelines, and creating dashboards and data visualizations.
  • Support design and management of donor engagement strategies using Hubspot email campaigns and workflows.

About the Role:

This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range and a generous benefits package that includes professional development, $2,000 in annual wellness funds, unlimited paid time off, healthcare premiums covered for employees and dependents at 90%, and the opportunity to join a retirement plan with a 3% match beginning after 3 months at Activate.

This role includes approximately 10% travel for national events and also requires prolonged periods of working on a computer. This position is available in one of our in-residence communities: Berkeley, Boston, New York City, or Houston.
