Position Summary
Antora is seeking a Senior Controls & Software Engineer to own the integration of the control systems and software that power our Thermal Energy Storage (TES) modules, industrial boilers, and complex balance-of-plant (BoP) systems.
This is a high-impact, site-based role for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of physical hardware and digital logic. You won't just be maintaining legacy systems; you will be architecting the brain of a first-of-a-kind energy technology. We are looking for a start up mindset who leverages modern tools to accelerate traditional industrial automation workflows, using AI to streamline code generation, automate documentation, and rapidly troubleshoot complex system behaviors.
This role is strongly preferred to be located full time in San Jose, California but open but, remote considered with 25% travel
Roles & Responsibilities
- System Architecture: Architect, design, and iterate on PLC and SCADA software for Antora’s TES and BoP systems, ensuring seamless integration between thermal storage and industrial heat delivery.
- End-to-End Ownership: Take full ownership of software lifecycles for specific projects, driving logic from initial concept through to site-wide implementation and commissioning.
- Technical Documentation: Write and maintain high-fidelity Process Control Narratives (PCNs), Cause and Effect Diagrams, State Diagrams, and Controls Operations Manuals.
- QA & Validation: Develop rigorous test plans, automated check tools, and QA procedures to ensure software reliability in high-stakes, high-temperature environments.
- Site Execution: Provide expert onsite and remote support for logic-related issues during commissioning, ensuring rapid resolution of "field-found" challenges.
Continuous Improvement: Design and commission upgrade projects for existing sites, using data-driven insights to improve system efficiency and uptime.
Key Qualifications
- Education & Experience: B.S. in Engineering (Electrical, Software, Mechanical, Automation, or related) and/or 5+ years of experience in demanding industrial environments (e.g., Oil & Gas, Chemicals, Power Plants).
- Controls Expertise: Proven track record programming "greenfield" and "brownfield" PLC and SCADA software, with specific proficiency in Allen Bradley (Studio 5000) and/or Ignition (Inductive Automation).
- Communication Protocols: Familiarity with industrial protocols including Modbus, CAN bus, Ethernet/IP, and Profinet.
Hardware Fluency: Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs, providing accurate red-lines for field modifications.
Additional Qualifications Desired
- Process Engineering Depth: Experience with high-temperature fluid loops, steam generators, or large-scale industrial boilers.
- Software Agility: Proficiency in Python, VBA, or SQL for data analysis and test automation, especially when leveraging AI for rapid script development.
- Commissioning Leadership: Hands-on experience developing and performing ITPs, Loop Checkouts, FAT, and SAT.
- Power Hardware Experience: Practical experience with VFDs, Motor Starters, SCRs, and high-precision instrumentation (RTDs, Thermocouples, Transmitters).
- Startup Resilience: Experience in a fast-paced environment where you are expected to operate with high ownership and adapt quickly to evolving project requirements.
- AI forward mindset: Utilize AI to automate
