Position Summary

We are seeking a talented and self-driven engineer who wants to apply their hands-on experience with the packaging of high-power-density semiconductor devices to the challenge of making robust and scalable thermophotovoltaic (TPV) modules. You will join a team of engineers who are passionate about what they do and live Antora’s core values of humility, openness and joy. This work will directly contribute to the first-ever assembly line of TPV modules and have an impact on the development of Antora’s first combined heat and power (CHP) long-duration energy storage product.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of a thermophotovoltaic (TPV) module (an electrically-interconnected array of TPV cells) capable of handling multiple W/cm2 of electrical power and thermal power, and being robust to thermal cycling.
  • Develop in-house capabilities, and/or local partnerships, for:
    • Wafer handling, frame-mounting, and dicing
    • Pick & place of ultra-thin dies from wafer tape
    • Die-bonding using die-adhesive films (DAFs)
    • Screen-printing
    • Inspection of parts using coordinate-measuring machine (CMM)
    • Assessing quality of die attach (x-ray for void fraction, thermal resistance, electrical resistance, thermal cycling, pull strength etc.)
  • Establish procedures and documentation for process control and optimization
  • Procure and maintain inventory of materials needed for all module assembly processes
  • Run assembly process to fabricate TPV modules

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or technical field (e.g., mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, etc.), or equivalent.
  • 2+ years working on the assembly and/or packaging of semiconductor devices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High degree of literacy in modern software tools, ranging from intra-office communication software to computer-aided design (CAD).

Additional Qualifications Desired

  • Graduate degree in an engineering or technical field, or equivalent.
  • Direct experience with packaging of large-area (e.g. multiple cm^2), high-power-density (e.g. >10 W/cm^2) device arrays for applications in integrated circuits, power converters, power electronics, etc.
  • Direct experience (2+ years) in the development, prototyping, and testing of optoelectronic devices.
  • Direct experience with building photovoltaic (PV), concentrator photovoltaic (CPV), and/or thermophotovoltaic (TPV) modules.
  • Hands-on experience with process steps and tools needed for wafer handling, frame-mounting and dicing, pick & place, die-bonding, screen-printing
