Job Brief
The R&D Technician will be responsible for enabling timely delivery of high-quality data to help support R&D efforts at Brimstone by executing standard experiments, supporting in analytical sample prep and characterization, and being a cross-functional member of multiple R&D projects. The successful candidate will be an effective team-player who is enthusiastic about contributing to Brimstone’s mission to decarbonize cement. This position reports to the Senior Metallurgical Technologist Scientist.
This role is based in Oakland, California and is a full-time, on-site position.
Key Focus Areas of the role may include:
Execute standard lab experiments following detailed SOPs
Support routine analytical measurements and data processing for cross-functional teams of engineers/scientists at Brimstone
Perform routine sample preparation tasks, following standard operating procedures for specific sample types
Strong attention to detail
Give feedback to senior team members on R&D team processes, procedures, and workflows to increase efficiency and sample throughput while ensuring data quality
Demonstrating flexibility and a collaborative mindset by supporting team members with tasks and projects that may extend beyond primary job responsibilities, ensuring overall team success
For this role, we’re looking for:
You have a BA/BS/AA in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related STEM field, and you are comfortable working in a scientific lab environment
Analytical sample preparation experience (liquid and/or solid samples)
You are able to effectively manage your time to complete all day-to-day tasks, given a list of assignments and relative priorities
You are curious, like problem solving, have a high attention to detail, and communicate your needs and blockers proactively
Proficiency with written and digital data entry and record keeping using e.g. Microsoft Office Suite (Excel), Asana or other standard software
Ability to lift 40 pounds
Additional skills that are preferred but not required:
Knowledge of elemental analysis techniques (ICP-OES, XRF, XRD)
Knowledge of metallurgical experimental techniques and analysis
