Summer Intern
Copper
Overview
At Copper, we’re building something bigger than just appliances—we’re creating the future of home energy. Our mission is simple: make it easier for people to switch to electric appliances without the headache of expensive electrical upgrades. We design smart appliances with integrated batteries that help homes manage energy efficiently, making electrification affordable, practical, and accessible for all.
Our first product is the Charlie stove, a 30” induction range with a built-in battery that can plug into a standard outlet. No costly panel upgrades, no complex rewiring—just faster, safer cooking that’s better for the planet. But we’re not stopping at stoves. We’re developing a network of battery-equipped appliances to create a seamless, energy-optimized home ecosystem.
Join us, and you’ll be part of a team of engineers, designers, and forward-thinkers working to reshape how energy is used at home—and how homes can contribute to a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
Copper is looking for Summer interns for 2025. We are looking for people working in specific disciplines. These include, but are not limited to:
- Hardware, Electrical, and Software Engineering
- Business, Marketing, and Sales
- Graphic and Product Design
- Technical Writing and Government Relations
We value a diverse workplace and are assembling our team to match these values at this early stage. We especially welcome different backgrounds, experiences, abilities, and perspectives, and strongly encourage people of all ethnic backgrounds and genders to apply.
This is a full-time, temporary position expected to last 12 weeks, and it is expected to be in-office 4 days per week with 1 day flexible for in-office or remote work, though this schedule may change depending on the role. Our office is located in Berkeley, CA.
What you'll do
Own a Project and See It Through
You’ll be given a clear project within your area of expertise, and it’ll be yours to manage. Whether you’re designing hardware, developing software, creating marketing content, or writing technical docs, you’ll have responsibility for delivering something meaningful.
Work with Other Teams to Make Things Happen
Collaboration is a big part of what we do. You’ll work with engineers, designers, marketers, and business leads to share ideas, troubleshoot challenges, and refine solutions.
Help Improve Our Products
Expect hands-on work. Whether it’s prototyping circuits, debugging code, or refining a product’s design, you’ll help us make our appliances more efficient, reliable, and user-friendly.
Contribute to Business Growth and Outreach
Support Copper’s growth by working on partner outreach, marketing campaigns, grant applications, or public policy initiatives. Your work will help expand our reach and impact.
Research What Matters
Whether it’s researching battery technologies, customer needs, or market opportunities, you’ll gather and analyze data that directly influences what we build and how we grow.
Participate in Product Demos and Events
Help show off our products in real-world settings. You might assist in customer demos, community events, or internal testing to get feedback and refine our offerings.
What you'll bring
Curiosity and Willingness to Learn
You don’t need to know everything coming in, but you should be ready to learn quickly. We value people who ask thoughtful questions and are willing to try new things when an immediate solution doesn’t present itself.
Technical or Subject Expertise (Relevant to Your Field)
Whether you’re coming from engineering, design, marketing, or policy, you should have a strong foundation in your area. For engineers, this could mean experience with hardware, software, or product design. For marketing and business roles, it could be strategic planning or creative content development.
Willingness to Take Action
Whether you’re refining a prototype or polishing a marketing campaign, you should care about getting the details right—but also know when it’s time to do something instead of sitting still.
Problem-Solving Mindset
We’re working on big, complex problems, and things don’t always go as planned. We need people who can troubleshoot, adapt, and think critically to find solutions.
Collaboration and Communication Skills
You’ll be working with people across different teams, so being able to communicate your ideas clearly—whether it’s through technical documentation or brainstorming sessions—is key. Listening and incorporating feedback is just as important.
Hands-On, Practical Experience
We’re not looking for perfect resumes—we care more about what you’ve built, tested, or worked on. That could be a project from school, a side hustle, a previous job, or even something self-taught.
Commitment to Sustainability and Impact
At Copper, we’re driven by a mission to make electrification accessible for everyone. We’re looking for people who care about creating solutions that are sustainable and equitable, even if you haven’t worked directly in climate or energy before.
A Portfolio of Experiences (Traditional or Non-Traditional)
We don’t have a rigid idea of what success looks like. Whether you’ve done internships, worked on personal projects, led student organizations, or taken non-linear career paths, we value experiences that show initiative and growth.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $30 - $35/hour.
Equal Employment Opportunity
We are committed to creating an equitable and inclusive environment for all our employees and are seeking to build a team that reflects the diversity of the people we hope to serve with our products. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
