Boilers, furnaces, and kilns are the engines of our industrial economy, providing heat to melt steel, form cement, and transform chemicals. But historically reaching this high-temperature heat required burning fossil fuels, making the industrial sector responsible for 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Electrified Thermal Solutions has a simple and massive goal: to electrify industry.
To do this, we are building the Joule Hive™ thermal battery: an energy storage technology that converts and stores cheap, renewable electricity as high-temperature heat. Our vision is to mitigate gigatons of CO2 emissions per year by deploying the Joule Hive™ at every industrial furnace, turbine, boiler, and kiln.

About the Role
As a Lead Structural Design Engineer, you will lead structural design and analyses for the first-of-a-kind demonstration of the Joule Hive™ thermal battery and subsequent products. You will play a key role in ensuring the design is structurally sound and optimized for performance, cost, and timeline. You will report directly to the VP of Engineering.
What You'll Do at ETS
- Lead the structural design and analyses for the Joule Hive™ thermal battery and subsequent products/projects.
- Lead the development of structural analysis methodologies to ensure the right analyses are done properly.
- Manage and review structural work from contractors.
- Collaborate with the rest of the design team to enable an optimal design that meets requirements.
- Work with the R&D team to determine the required test for model validations.
- Keep up with the latest tools and programs; perform technical research and self-training as needed.
What You'll Bring to ETS
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
- At least 5 years of industrial design experience.
- At least 2 years experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural analyses, ideally using ANSYS Mechanical
- Have experience performing creep and fatigue analyses, ideally for high-temperature ceramics.
- Devise creative design solutions without losing focus on the defined scope and timeline.
- Experience creating models and drawing with 3D CAD software, ideally Solidworks.
- Experience bringing a design from concept to manufacturing ready.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organized & detail-oriented
- Collaborative, adaptable, and loves to challenge assumptions.
