About Electrified Thermal Solutions
Boilers, furnaces, and kilns are the engines of our industrial economy, providing heat to melt steel, form cement, and transform chemicals. But historically reaching this high-temperature heat required burning fossil fuels, making the industrial sector responsible for 25% of global greenhouse gas emissions.
Electrified Thermal Solutions has a simple and massive goal: to electrify industry.
To do this, we are building the Joule Hive™ thermal battery: an energy storage technology that converts and stores cheap, renewable electricity as high-temperature heat. Our vision is to mitigate gigatons of CO2 emissions per year by deploying the Joule Hive™ at every industrial furnace, turbine, boiler, and kiln.
As an Electrical Engineer, you will join our engineering team and play a pivotal role in scaling up our Joule Hive™ Thermal Battery. This job offers a unique opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that will shape the future of renewable energy technology. You will lead field activities related to electrical system installation and commissioning. You will report to the Lead Electrical Engineer.
Travel: 50% (to support on-site installation and commissioning for projects)

What You'll Do

    • Assist in the design of electrical power and control systems of the Joule Hive thermal battery.

    • Develop and maintain electrical circuit models of the thermal battery electrical system.

    • Development of a comprehensive Computer-Aided Design (CAD) framework for the commercial system, including development of models that encapsulate the system's architecture, components, and subsystems.

    • Ensure seamless coordination among various components and subsystems through the CAD framework and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate and optimize various subsystems, components, and processes within the thermal battery system.

    • Maintain detailed documentation throughout the project such design specifications, CAD models, simulation results, and test reports.

    • Provide progress updates and technical reports to project stakeholders, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and mitigation strategies.

    • Support functional testing of electrical equipment, instrumentation, PLC I/O, and control systems.

    • Perform electrical troubleshooting during and after project installation, commissioning and integration.

What You'll Bring

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering.

    • 1-3 years of professional engineering experience (co-op experience will be considered).

    • Strong understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals including:

    • Circuit analysis

    • Three-phase power systems

    • Electrical machines

    • Power distribution

    • Control systems

    • Experience with MV electrical system design and deployment is a strong plus

    • Proficiency in LTspice, PSpice or other circuit modeling/analysis software.

    • Proficiency in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software

    • Proficiency in Python or similar coding languages.

    • Proficiency in Microsoft office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Willingness to work hands-on in laboratory and industrial environments.

    • Experience with renewable energy systems or thermal energy storage is a plus.
