Description

The Field Safety Representative will be stationed at the rig site in Utah on a 14/14 rotation, working closely with the Drill Site Manager to assist in building and maintaining a strong safety culture. The Representative will also provide assurance on safety processes and execution during drilling operations, and work with the Drill Site Manager and central Safety team to develop training and provide on-site coaching that ensures compliance with all Fervo safety regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

1. Safety Leadership:

  • Promote and enhance a proactive safety culture at the rig site.
  • Lead by example in demonstrating safe work practices and behaviors.
  • Conduct safety meetings, briefings, and training sessions for the rig crew.

2. Safety Compliance and Intervention:

  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Monitor adherence to safety protocols and standards.
  • Intervene and coach effectively when unsafe behaviors are observed.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections at the rig site.

3. Incident Management:

  • Investigate and document incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
  • Develop and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence, with a focus on root cause and human factors to uncover the ‘why’ of incidents.
  • Maintain accurate records of safety incidents and actions taken.
  • Maintain data entry for safety observations database and use to identify trends and focus areas.

4. Risk Assessment:

  • Support team to conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses for drilling operations.
  • Ensure potential hazards have been identified and appropriate mitigations are implemented for all operations.
  • Review safety plans and permits to work and advise Drill Site Manager on considerations for approval.

5. Safety Training:

  • Develop and deliver safety training programs for rig personnel.
  • Ensure all personnel are adequately trained in emergency response and safety procedures.
  • Keep training records up-to-date and ensure compliance with training requirements.
  • Provide safety onboarding and training for new service providers and rig visitors.

6. Emergency Preparedness:

  • Support in the development maintenance of emergency response plans and procedures.
  • Assist the Drill Site Manager with regular emergency drills and exercises.
  • Ensure emergency equipment is inspected and maintained in readiness.
  • Maintain location check-in / check-out systems.

7. Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with the Drill Site Manager and other site personnel to promote safety initiatives.
  • Communicate safety expectations and performance to all rig personnel.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies and third-party safety auditors as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a drilling safety or HSE role within the oil and gas or geothermal industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of drilling operations and safety practices.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Certification in safety management (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA) is preferred.
  • Ability to work on a rotational schedule at remote locations.

Location

Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Oakland, CA, Golden, CO, Salt Lake City, UT and Reno, NV. This position will be based at the rig site in Milford, UT on a 14/14 rotation. Travel to and from site for rotations, and lodging while on rotation will be paid for by Fervo.
