As a Senior Originator, you will lead Fervo's efforts to identify, structure, and close high-value energy transactions — including power purchase agreements (PPAs), tolling agreements, and related offtake contracts. You will own the full commercial lifecycle from opportunity identification through contract execution, serving as Fervo's primary commercial point of contact with utilities, corporates, and other strategic counterparties.
You will also contribute to the broader development of Fervo's origination strategy, working closely with Engineering, Finance, Legal, and Development teams to design competitive offerings and ensure optimal risk allocation. Reporting to the Director of Origination, you will help shape how Fervo competes and wins in Western U.S. energy markets while mentoring junior team members and expanding overall team capacity.
Responsibilities
Transaction Origination & Execution
- Lead origination of high-value commercial opportunities, including structuring and negotiating PPAs, tolling agreements, and offtake contracts.
- Oversee the full sales process end-to-end, including opportunity identification, proposal development, pricing strategy, term sheet negotiation, and contract execution.
- Serve as Fervo's primary commercial point of contact with counterparties, ensuring alignment between customer requirements and Fervo's technical and financial capabilities.
- Develop and execute origination strategies aligned with Fervo's growth objectives, market dynamics, and customer decarbonization needs.
Market Development & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with utilities, corporates, and other strategic counterparties across Western U.S. energy markets.
- Monitor and analyze evolving energy markets, regulations, and policy frameworks to identify new opportunities and proactively address risks.
- Represent Fervo at industry events, conferences, and key stakeholder meetings to enhance visibility and credibility in target markets.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Collaborate with Engineering, Legal, Finance, and Development teams to design competitive offerings, assess project feasibility, and structure optimal risk allocation.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to ensure commercial terms are consistent with Fervo's financial models, project constraints, and long-term strategic objectives.
Team and Culture
- Mentor and guide junior team members, including Origination Associates, to support their professional development and expand team capacity.
- Demonstrate ownership over deal quality, counterparty relationships, and commercial outcomes across the full origination lifecycle.
- Work with urgency, sound judgment, and resilience in a fast-paced and evolving market environment.
- Contribute to a culture of commercial excellence and continuous improvement within the Origination team.
Required Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience in energy origination, structured transactions, utility procurement, or related fields
- Proven track record of leading and closing complex energy transactions with utilities or corporate offtakers
- Bachelor's degree in economics, business, law, engineering, or related field
- Strong understanding of power market dynamics, renewable development processes, and contracting structures
- Excellent negotiation, relationship management, and executive communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously and drive deals to close in a fast-paced environment
- Direct experience with wholesale organized markets and the Western Electric Coordinating Council, including contracting and settlement processes
- Deep understanding of Western U.S. energy markets and utility procurement practices
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing renewable procurement and transmission
- Strong knowledge of transmission systems and their implications for renewable project development
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in a relevant field
- Familiarity with Behind-the-Meter offtake arrangements for data center customers or other islanded/partially-islanded customers
- Experience in a high-growth or early-stage energy company environment
Location
Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, TX with growing offices in Golden, Oakland, Reno, and Salt Lake City. This position will be eligible for some hybrid work flexibility, but regular in-office presence at the Oakland office location will be required. Travel will be required for this position.

Fervo Energy is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. Expected Salary: $165,000-$195,000 based on California locality, pay in other locations may vary.
