Location and on-site requirementsPrimary location: Boulder, COOn-site requirements: This position requires lab-based work, including system assembly, water treatment experiments, and analytical testing.Flexibility: Remote work is possible for data analysis, writing, or meetings, but most of the work will be in person.Travel: Minimal (< 10%) – may include conferences, collaborator visits, pitches, and technology demonstrations.Compensation rangeSalary: $75,000-100,000 (commensurate with experience)Benefits: Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision with 75% of premiums covered by the company.About the roleWe are hiring an Environmental Engineer to join our team in developing a novel approach to spaceflight water recovery. This role will focus on integrating our pressure-driven distillation membrane technology with advanced treatment processes to purify humidity condensate and urine wastewater. The system is being designed for use in the upcoming Artemis missions. You will work closely with the CTO, CSO, CEO, and collaborate with engineers at NASA’s Johnson Space Center.As one of the first employees, you will play a key role in building the technical foundation for OsmoPure’s spaceflight water recovery system. This will include developing protocols, designing experiments, and iterating to optimize system performance and contaminant removal. Success will mean delivering a system that meets NASA’s water quality standards, supported by reliable methods and clear communication of results.This is a unique startup opportunity to help address critical environmental challenges through innovative water treatment technologies. This role offers the chance to explore novel treatment processes, work with world-class equipment, and contribute directly to developing a scalable solution with global impact.What you’ll doDesign, build, and test bench-scale and prototype water recovery systems (e.g., advanced oxidation, biodegradation, adsorption, etc.) that integrate OsmoPure’s pressure-driven distillation membranes with other treatment processesConduct water quality testing of humidity condensate and urine wastewater to evaluate removal of urea, TOC, and other target contaminantsFollow safety procedures and NASA/OSHA environmental health and safety guidelines, particularly when handling wastewater simulants and hazardous chemicalsAnalyze experimental results, troubleshoot system performance, and iterate designs to optimize contaminant removal, energy use, and system reliabilityDocument results in written reports, presentations, and data packages for internal use and for delivery to NASA program managersCollaborate with the CTO, CSO, CEO, and NASA engineers at Johnson Space Center to align experiments with project milestones and mission requirementsContribute to external communications, including funding proposals, technical updates, and publicationsWhat you’ll bringB.S. or M.S. in environmental, chemical, mechanical, or aerospace engineering, chemistry, or a related fieldAbility to design and run experiments, analyze results, perform statistical analyses, and adjust approaches based on dataStrong documentation practices and ability to develop clear SOPsCollaborative, communicative, and curious; driven to pursue innovative solutions and resilient in the face of research challenges; comfortable working in a small, fast-moving teamExcited about contributing to a startup environment where responsibilities change quicklyBonus: experience with water treatment processes (e.g., physio-chemical or biological removal), analytical techniques (TOC, GC-MS), and leadership skills with interest in mentoring internsWhat you need to apply (email to nadia@osmopuretechnologies.com)CV/Resume (2 page max)Cover letter (1 page max) detailing the following:Relevant laboratory experienceSkills you bring to the team to support our workMotivation for working at an early-stage startup solving critical water challengesCompensation and benefitsThe salary range for this role is $75,000 to $90,000. We are committed to equitable compensation across our company, and we offer a generous benefits package to make sure you have the support you need.
