<ul> <li>Perform R&amp;D work on thin film magnetoelectric material stacks &amp; devices used in Sonera’s brain-machine interface sensors </li> <li>Process the thin film magnetic material stack samples using in-house sputter deposition tool</li> <li>Perform both static and dynamic magnetic characterization on the samples using in-house tools such as VSM &amp; FMR systems</li> <li>Test and characterize device performance and reliability using standard metrology tools such as VNA and probe stations</li> <li>Collect and interpret data &amp; results, and drive the project to its conclusion</li> <li>Work with materials team to characterize and iteratively optimize samples for best sensor performance</li> <li>Present final data and conclusions to the team</li> </ul>Internships will be 12 weeks in duration with a flexible start date (Summer 2024)

Its core technology enables them to detect signals from the brain at performance levels comparable to the best diagnostic tools that rely on superconducting sensors. It can detect high-quality magnetic signals from neurons firing in the brain using a non-invasive, low-cost, and low-power system - enabling a practical brain-computer interface. ‍Sonera’s portable brain imaging systems can be used to provide concordant evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders, such as epilepsy and dementia. The company was founded in 2018 by Nishita Deka, Dominic Labanowski, and Sayeef Salahuddin in Berkeley, California.
