Mission – Why we exist and why we need you
Geothermal energy is the most abundant renewable energy source in the world. There is 2,300 times more energy in geothermal heat in the ground than in oil, gas, coal, and methane combined. However, historically it’s been hard to find and expensive to develop. At Zanskar, we’re using better technology to find and develop new geothermal resources in order to make geothermal a cheap and vital contributor to a carbon-free electrical grid.
We are seeking a skilled GIS Analyst/Land Technician to contribute to the daily functions of the Land Department at Zanskar and keep things running smoothly as we scale. Zanskar’s Land Team is responsible for securing site control and permitting for exploration and development. The GIS Analyst will play an integral part in enabling these processes by updating, managing and familiarizing personnel with our postgreSQL database.
Outcomes - Problems you’ll solve
Our teams and technology run on accurate data. A successful GIS Analyst will make sure all GIS layers in our database are up to date and accurate as new information comes in. They will also craft maps for leasing, exploration and field operations. Additionally, you will offer assistance to Land Specialists and the department head as required, while also aiding in data science initiatives in the development and upkeep of the dashboards that the Land Team utilizes.
Duties will include:
- Entering new land data into our specialized software
- Crafting maps for both internal and external purposes
- Ongoing QC work to ensure the accuracy of contracts and spatial data
Competencies – What we’re looking for
- Technical Proficiency: Skilled in GIS softwares such as ArcGIS, QGIS, and other relevant tools. Ability to create maps, manipulate spatial data, and conduct spatial analysis. A Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required in one of the following fields: Geology, Geography, Cartography, GIS or related field.
- Data Management Skills: Strong understanding of data management principles and practices is required. Prior experience with organizing, cleaning and managing spatial data.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the accuracy and reliability of spatial data and analysis results. Ability to identify and rectify data discrepancies and errors.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex information to a diverse audience. Experience with preparing written reports, presentations and documents.
Requirements:
- 2 years of experience in spatial analysis
- Knowledge of ESRI and/or QGIS
- Knowledge of PLSS, UTM, Lat/Long
- Land Tech background preferred but not required
