Mission & why we need you
Geothermal energy is the most abundant renewable energy source in the world. There is 2,300 times more energy in geothermal heat in the ground than in oil, gas, coal, and methane combined. However, historically it’s been hard to find and expensive to develop. At Zanskar, we’re using better technology to find and develop new geothermal resources in order to make geothermal an affordable and vital contributor to a carbon-free electrical grid.
We need a Controller who will be crucial in managing our day-to-day financial transactions and reports. This role involves a blend of traditional bookkeeping responsibilities along with financial planning and analysis (FP&A) functions. The ideal candidate will contribute to the efficient and effective workings of the finance department by executing daily tasks with a strong attention to detail. This position will utilize accounting softwares and methodologies to streamline processes and provide insightful financial data to the company.
Problems you’ll solve
In the first six months of your tenure as Controller at Zanskar, there will be a concentrated emphasis on the following key areas:
Accounting and Reconciliation: A significant part of your role will involve the company's accounting functions including ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and payroll. This will include preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports. Additionally, you will be responsible for the thorough and accurate reconciliation of accounts. This includes ensuring that all financial transactions are correctly recorded and reflected in our accounting system. Your efforts in this area will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of our financial data.
Tracking, Reporting, and Auditing: You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining robust tracking and reporting systems. This will include accounting and controlling functions to maximize protection of company assets and remain compliant with government grants. Additionally, you will contribute to the preparation for internal or external audits, ensuring that all financial records are in order and audit-ready as well as compliant with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
What we’re looking for
Proven accounting experience:
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Multiple years as a bookkeeper/controller with experience managing and processing payroll, invoicing, and payment transactions
- Experience preparing accurate financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders at an executive or investor level
- Fluency with ERP systems and accounting software tools like NetSuite, QuickBooks, Gusto, and Bill.com for efficient financial management.
Company builder
- Ability to communicate effectively with various departments and stakeholders, even those without traditional business background, such as R&D technical leads, to understand their business needs and reinforce good business practices
- Ability to create new or better-structured systems that can scale as the company grows
Industry experience:
- Prior experience with power and utilities and fixed assets accounting preferred
- The ideal candidate will be familiar with power plant operations, including regular purchase orders and procurement of supplies and materials as well as property tax filings and regulatory compliance.
